Living Downstream is a program for people who'd like to learn about environmental topics of interest in the Umpqua Watershed of southern Oregon and the larger Pacific Northwest region. It is coordinated by the AmeriCorps member serving as the Environmental Education & Outreach Leader for the Umpqua Watershed organization in an effort to bring awareness of environmental issues to a wider audience.

This episode features a few different people involved in the Peer2Peer program hosted by South Umpqua High School, the student agree to spend a few weeks working for a job that they are interested in. Umpqua Watersheds had the opportunity to host two students, a mentor (Ashlee Everett) and mentee (Malachi Flessas). The students talk about what they learned during their time with the organizations, along with their job site coordinator.
The second half of the episode features guest speaker Les Rogers, the Transition Network Facilitator for Douglas, Coos and Curry counties. Along side Les, was Vicki Poore another work site coordinator with ESD. These two discuss the program, history, importance and impact this program has on the entire community.

This episode features guest speakers Kasey Hovik, the executive director of Umpqua Watersheds joining us to discuss the history of earth day and upcoming events. Tracy Maxwell with Umpqua Valley Audubon Society to discuss their upcoming earth day event and Melanie MacKinnon representing Douglas County Global Warming Coalition, discussing earth day event hosted by the Umpqua Transportation Electrification Team and co-sponsored by Pacific Power, DCGWC, FORTH, Umpqua Watersheds, and Aviva Health.
In the later portion of this episode we feature a special segment by Talking with Green Teacher. What are some common misconceptions about trees? How can we foster meaningful experiences with them? In which situations does anthropomorphizing work and not work? Arborist Ian Allan spends most of his time among trees in the 200 hectares of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Wilderness Area that he manages in New South Wales, Australia. He has amassed a treasure trove of stories and insights about the woody giants that surround us and provide so many ecosystems services. Ian joined us to discuss how to connect trees with people — both the initiated and the uninitiated. He also shared some details about a new project being conducted in partnership with a local First Nation.
