Living Downstream is a program for people who'd like to learn about environmental topics of interest in the Umpqua Watershed of southern Oregon and the larger Pacific Northwest region. It is coordinated by the AmeriCorps member serving as the Environmental Education & Outreach Leader for the Umpqua Watershed organization in an effort to bring awareness of environmental issues to a wider audience.

In the first half of this episode, two members of the Wildlife Images Rehabilitation and and Education Center team, Kaitlyn Scheffler and Billy Crawford discuss what their organization does, including how they educate people about wildlife and how they save injured animals. They also discuss what challenges our native wildlife face, including such things as climate change, conflicts with humans, and more.
In the second half, we hear from Lepidopterist and Professor of Entomology at WSU, David James. He covers some basic butterfly and moth facts, discusses his book on the subject, and dives into what butterflies offer our ecosystem and the importance of researching them. He talks about sustainable pest management and how people can help to preserve our native butterfly populations.
